The principle of operation of the HARPUN pulse metal detector is based on the excitation of pulsed eddy currents in a metal object and the measurement of the secondary electromagnetic field that these currents induce. Using the built-in microprocessor, the device analyzes this re-emitted signal and produces a corresponding indication of the detected object.
Preparation for work
Before using the device, it must be put into working position:
Assemble the rod of the metal detector and fix it.
Fasten the sensor to the rod with a plastic bolt.
Fasten the electronic unit to the rod.
Connect the sensor connector to the electronic unit. Wrap the cable connecting the electronic unit and the sensor 3-4 times around the rod.
Connect the power cable from the battery compartment.
Wrap the power cable 2-3 times around the shaft and connect the power connector to the electronic unit.
If necessary, plug the headphones into the jack located on the front panel of the device.
Work with the device
To indicate the level of the signal re-emitted by a metal object, the device has an LED scale. The "first" LED is lit when there are no metal objects. The higher the signal level, the higher the number of the lit LED. Each LED (except for the "First") has its own tone of sound signal.
Note: The signal strength depends on the size and shape of the metal object, as well as the distance between the object and the sensor. At the beginning of work, you must turn on the "Power" toggle switch. Then you need to raise the sensor to a level of 30-40 cm from the ground and press the "Reset" button.
Within 2 seconds the device will perform auto-tuning. At the end of auto-tuning, the device will emit a characteristic sound signal. After that, the sensor must be brought closer to the ground (in a place where there are no metal objects) at a distance of 4-5 cm and adjust the sensitivity using the "Sense" knob. The knob must be rotated until the false responses disappear. After that, you can start looking. When a metal object enters the sensor field, the device signals this by means of visual and sound indication.
To determine the center of the object, you need to move the sensor until the maximum reading is obtained. In this case, with a high degree of probability, it can be argued that the center of the object is in the ground opposite the center of the sensor. When the battery is discharged below the permissible level, an alarm will be triggered - the "first" LED will blink and at the same time the device will emit an intermittent sound signal.
In this case, you must stop working with the metal detector, turn off the device and charge or replace the battery. At the end of the work, the device should be disassembled in the reverse order of assembly (clause 6). Transportation and storage of the metal detector and assembled is allowed. In this case, it is recommended to disconnect the power supply from the electronic unit to avoid unintentional activation of the discharge and oxidation device.
If after switching on the "First" LED flashes and an intermittent sound is generated: the battery is discharged. It should be charged or replaced.
