Description

This is a Numbered (4353) Mexican Border Service medal.  It has the original full wrapped, rotating locking clasp brooch and a replaced ribbon.  The planchet is in very good condition, with a small edge knock at about the 10 O'clock position.  The numbers are well impressed, very clear and very easy to read.
This specific medal was awarded and issued to Major (then Battalion Sergeant-Major)
Michael Murray
.  Mr. Murray was born in Brooklyn, New York, in 1889.  He first enlisted with the 14th New York Infantry and saw service on the Mexican Border in 1916, for which he was awarded this medal, and was later promoted to 2nd Lieutenant.  At the outbreak of WW1, he enlisted with Company G, of the 47th Infantry, as a Private, but was reassigned to the 53rd Pioneer Infantry in January of 1918.  In July of that year, he was promoted to Corporal, and on August 5, 1918, was in France with the Pioneer Infantry.  In September 1918, he was promoted to Sergeant.  On May 4, 1919 he was shipped back to the U.S., and promoted to 1st Sergeant.  He was honorably discharged on May 20, 1919.  He must have been recommissioned in the New York Reserves, as he retired on or about July 31, 1932, at the Officer rank of Major.  He was also eligible for the WW1 Victory medal, however, if issued, whereabouts are unknown.
I will provide a copy of the issue records, a copy of his acknowledgement card from the archives, a copy of both his New York AGO reports, and a copy of his New York Reserve retirement notification.
