Description
INCREDIBLY NICE CONDITION SILVER PIRATE COIN FROM EASTERN EUROPE DATING FROM 1600's to 1626, found by members of our staff years ago in Puerto Rico. Coin bears charging knight brandishing sword and royal eagle, very popular motif on coins of this period. These coins were left in circulation for many years, thus are mostly found in low grades, but not this coin. About the size of US nickel coin. These coins were hand hammered, on whichever silver blanks they had on hand, so coins were of various thickness, featured clipped planchets, off center strikes, heavy or slight strikes, splits and cracks and many other defects. Each coin is different. This coin received a heavy strike helping it retain a lot of detail even after many years in circulation and several hundred years buried in the soil, but also produced very evident rough edges from very crude minting practices. EXCELLENT COIN # 230z
